Tutorial "Hocus Pocus"

This tutorial was written by me on 8th October 2010. It was done with PSP9 but it might work with other versions, too. This tutorial is copyrighted to me, any resemblance is purely coincidental and not intentional!

You need: "Hocus Pocus" Scrapkit by Grunge and Glitter Scraps which you can purchase at TwilightScraps, a Halloween tube, I am using the fantastic artowork of Ismael Rac which you can purchase at XeracXStore, font Pixelmix, Halloween Temp 1 and Halloween Temp 2 by ToxicDesirez and mask Vix_Halloween2010No1.jpg by Vix

1. Open mask and Halloween Temp 1 in PSP, with Shift D make a copy of the template, this is the one we are working with, close the original, resize image 600x514px (resize all layers checked), image, canvas size Width 700px/Height 600px, Placement Center, delete layer Credits, highlight background, make it visible, add new rasterlayer, select all, open GG_HocusPocus_paper5.jpg, copy and paste into selection, select none, layers, new masklayer, from image, load Vix_Halloween2010No1.jpg, source luminance checked, merge group

2. Open GG_HocusPocus_spidertrail.png, rotate 90 degrees right, resize 600px, copy and paste as new layer, move it up, duplicate layer, image mirror, image flip, merge down

3. Highlight Circle 1 Left, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, open GG_HocusPocus_paper9.jpg, copy and paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, add Dropshadow 1/1/25/2 #000000, do the same with Circle 1 Right

4. Highlight Circle 2 Left, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, copy GG_HocusPocus_paper9.jpg, paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, select none, add Dropshadow, do the same with Circle 2 Right

5. Highlight Rectangle, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, open GG_HocusPocus_paper4.jpg, copy and paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, select none, add Dropshadow, highlight Circle, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, paste GG_HocusPocus_paper4.jpg as new layer again, selection invert, press delete, select none, add Dropshadow

6. Highlight Pimpkin Faces, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, open GG_HocusPocus_paper7.jpg, copy and paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, select none, adjust, add noise, noise 25, Uniform and Monochrome checked, add Dropshadow

7. Highlight Square Right, merge down (with Square Left), select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, copy paper GG_HocusPocus_paper7.jpg, paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, select none, add Dropshadow, highlight Doted Circle, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, paste GG_HocusPocus_paper7.jpg as new layer again, selection invert, press delete, select none, add Dropshadow, highlight STars, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, copy paper GG_HocusPocus_paper4.jpg, paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, select none, adjust, add noise, noise 50, Uniform and Monochrome checked, add Dropshadow

8. Highlight layer Pixel Words, delete it, open your font Pixelmix, size 5px, foreground colour off, background #cd541b, with capital letters write Hocus Pocus, convert to rasterlayer, edit - cut, edit - paste as new layer, Effects - Mura's Meister Copies - Tiling/Tile Gap 1, highlight black circle layer, with your magic wand tool click outside, selection invert, selection, modify, contract 10px, selection, modify, feather in/out, feather size 15/both, selection invert, highlight Hocus Pocus word layer, press delete 4 times, select none, set the opacity to 70

9. Highlight the layer with the stars, open GG_HocusPocus_ghost1.png, resize 50%, copy and paste as new layer, image mirror, move it up to the right, set the opacity to 65

10. Highlight top layer, open Halloween Temp 2, copy Words Back, paste as new layer onto your tag, copy Words, paste as new layer onto your tag, close Halloween Temp 2, resize both word layers 82% (resize all layers not checked), highlight Words Back, select all, selection float, selection defloat, delete layer, open GG_HocusPocus_paper5.jpg, copy and paste as new layer, selection invert, press delete, select none, adjust, add noise, noise 25, Uniform and Monochrome checked, add Dropshadow 1/1/50/2 #000000

11. Highlight top layer, open GG_HocusPocus_batmoon.png, resize 75%, copy and paste as new layer, draw a selection as you can see on my preview, promote to layer, on the original layer press delete, select none
Move the promoted (moon) layer a little down, adjust, Hue/Saturation, Colorize 13/201, add Dropshadow 1/1/25/2 #000000 to the bats

12. Open GG_HocusPocus_magicalter.png, resize 40%, copy and paste as new layer, move it down to the right, add Dropshadow, open GG_HocusPocus_spellbook.png, resize 30%, copy and paste as new layer, free rotate 25 degrees right, sharpen, move it down to the right, place it on the alter, add Dropshadow, open GG_HocusPocus_pumpkin.png, resize 35%, copy and paste as new layer, move down, add Dropshadow

13. Open your tube, copy and paste as new layer, resize if needed, place her on the cloud, add Dropshadow 2/2/25/5 #000000, open GG_HocusPocus_jackolantern.png, resize 24%, copy and paste as new layer, move it down to the right, add Dropshadow, open GG_HocusPocus_bottle2.png, resize 25%, copy and paste as new layer, free rotate 10 degrees left, sharpen, move it down to the right, place it on the right side of the pumpkin, add Dropshadow

14. Highlight the orange top circle layer, open GG_HocusPocus_spidertrail.png again, cut out some of the spiders, paste them as new layers onto your tag and place them into the orange top circle layer as you wish, add Dropshadow to the spiders

You can write down your name and/or text now, add copyright information and save your tag as .png or .jpg! Hope you had fun ♥
